Santiago Goes to The Dentist

Santiago
Dreams Cuban
Beaches and beaten
Machetes

I went to the
Dentist,
He says

They replaced
My front tooth
And put caps
On 4 others

He opens
Wide

A bird sings
At the
Fang of rock

The ocean dances
Rhythmic foam
Of crane’s feet

Santiago
From Cuba

Chocolate skin,
Hair going
Thin

In San Francisco
Now

The dentist works
His art while Santiago
Smiles through hum
And wire

Closes his eyes,
Dreams the
Beach

Walks a street
That bears
His name

While Cranes beat
Wings in the
Hollow cave

Of his
Mouth
